On Tuesday Feb 1st our lead photographer Carlos wanted to experiment with a new lighting set up. His photography uses a lot of soft and defused light. He likes light to wrap around his models in just the right way.
This time he wanted to do something that was outside of his normal approach. He decided to use nothing but hard light. no diffusers, no umbrellas, no bounce cards, no soft boxes, no beauty dish, no smoke, no light modifiers at all. just the bare flash head and a model.
The only person he could think of would have fun shooting in a completely different way is Lady Live.
Here are a few pics from the shoot.

Sofia's Shoot
We had a chance to work with a great model who goes by the name of sofia. She has a lot of energy and was a pleasure to work with. She makes every shot count and she can really make the whole staff laugh. Her and our MUA really bonded and they became fast friends.
Here are a few pics from her shoot:

Every Thursday
We have fallen a bit behind on our blog entries. We have tried to keep up but there is so much to do that the blog has taken a back seat for the past 2 weeks. I am here to tell you that is not going to happen again. We have decided to have our new blog entries come out once a week. From now on we will update our blog every Thursday. We will also post up a few random blog entries as the need arises.

New Body Painting Shoot
Cait from Cait's paints came over for a new shoot. She brought a model we have worked with before Chantal Elise Lamour. This was a quick shoot, we only did one set.
As always the shoot was fun and funny. The shoot started late it was almost 11PM when we started shooting. and the heat in the building was falling quickly. When we started the temperature in the studio was 60 Degrees Fahrenheit and by the time we were done it was 48 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Chantal was a real professional and did the shoot with little or no complaints at all. As you can see she did an amazing job. -CA-

Behind the Scenes Snow Shoot 01-7-2011
Here is a behind the scenes video of the snow shoot we did on 01-07-2011.
The weather outside was a brutal and a freezing 27 degrees. Our talented models braved the cold and possible pneumonia and made it look effortless. Gray Door Studio is Located in Union City NJ. You can see more of our work on our modelmayhem.com page http://modelmayhem.com/graydoorstudio or our home page http://graydoorstudio.com

Star’s Photo shoot 1-16-2011
On the day before MLK, we are doing a photo shoot with a long time friend and model, “Star”. She’s a fun and wacky person to be around, but when the camera is on, so is her A game. Like her name, her voice burns bright; we are shooting some promotional pictures to help her with an upcoming R&B album she is releasing.

Snow Shoot 01-7-2011
So with all the snow that has hit the east coast we decided to do a shoot in the snow. We decided to try to go out and do three sets. We did some really quick location scouting the day of and we decided to go shoot in North Hudson Park. We were lucky that no one went to the park and decided to play in the fields of snow. The unfortunate thing is that parking was a major headache. This actually forced us to change our plans.
The first set was a white on white set. white clothing on a white field of snow. On our way to the shoot a tree caught our eye and we decided to make the shoot about the contrast of the tree and the models. The second and third set was supposed to be in and around the park but the parking and the PD was not cooperating with us. So we decided to look elsewhere.
After some much needed warming up in Starbucks with our vanilla lattes we decided to go to old river road and do the last 2 sets.
The shoot was a lot of fun despite the fact that we were freezing in 30 degree weather. It was sooooo cold that even the equipment was starting to fail. Despite the crazy weather we did get some amazing shots.

Break's ova, it's Tha Takeova!!
Last night, Carlos and I had the absolute pleasure of being interviewed by the hottest up-and-coming internet radio show on the east coast, Tha TakeOva Show. Approached by the show's hosts (and GDS clients) Frank Dukes and DJ GetLoose, we were more than happy to sit in and talk about music, photography, and... wax. We also established the show's first-ever contest, "Tha TakeOva's Shorty of The Week", where female listeners can submit their photos in hopes of being selected to win a full photo shoot here at the studio. As an added treat for the listeners/viewers, we're also inviting Tha TakeOva show to broadcast live from our stage while the shoot is in progress. Since we invite models to bring their own music to play while we shoot, what could be better than having a live DJ?!
Also during the breaks, Carlos was snapping some photos for an impromptu shoot. Photos after the jump.
Tune in to Tha TakeOva Show every Monday through Friday night from 10PM to 12AM on ClubZone.fm
