Tiger Shoot

Cait from Cait's Paints gave us a call and wanted to do a unique concept. She wanted to do a an Abercrombie & Fitch style shoot with body painting. I loved the concept. She went on to further explain that it would be with a male model in tiger body paint.

So after the paint we just shot in that style and got some very interesting pics. Our model Brian was alot of fun to shoot with. He had great energy and was making jokes and laughing thought the shoot. He followed direction very well and did many different poses quickly and professionally. It wasn't till after the shoot we found out this was his first time in front of the camera. We are definitely going to shoot him again.

Here is a quick behind the scenes video of the shoot and some pics from the shoot:

What Happened to April's Posts???

Many of you probably are wondering why we have been on a hiatus during the month of April. Most of the staff has been taking their vacations this month. We have done a few interesting photoshoots in the first half of the month but the last half has been kind of quiet with Carlos A taking 2 weeks off. We have managed to get us a new prop, a custom chopper, we only have it for a few weeks and we can't wait to make use of it. Lately we have really gotten a chance to get in touch with our musical side, by producing tracks for an upcoming folk singer, "Emily" and hip hop group, "k-Notah". We will post the april shoots on our blog soon and things will get back to normal

Since we do not have a photo to post we decided to post a pic of most of the staff.

Nativo emd at Gray Door Studio

A few weeks ago we were contacted by the manager of a local artist that goes by the name of Nativo emd. He came to ask if we could shoot his promotional pics. We set a date for a week later.

Nativo came in with his manager and a few friends for moral support. His entourage were very friendly and helpful and they were all pretty funny. As it always happens with musicians the jokes started flowing when Nativo was getting his make up done. He just took it in stride and laughed with them.

Nativo was very easy to work with he was a real natural. He enjoyed working in front of the camera and followed directions very well. The shoot took a little longer than normal because we had to give him all his directions in spanish, but all in all it was a great shoot.

Here are a few pics from his shoot:

MsZ Diem on Gray Door Studio

Today we are going to talk about one of our TFP shoots. We posted a TFP casting on modelmayhem.com to shoot a model that is new to the industry and to help her build her portfolio. We were fortunate to received a lot of messages from models who wanted to fill the casting. Normally this would be a good thing but we only had 2 dates open for the shoot so we had to turn a lot of other models away. We hate to have to do that but we only had limited shooting time so we picked the two models that we thought would help balance our portfolio.

One was a no show..... (God do we hate that!) and the other one showed up for her shoot.

The models name is MsZ Diem. She was a pleasure to work with. She was on-time, prepared, very professional, easy to work with, and above all was a great conversationalist. She is someone that we would like to book again.

Here are some pictures from the shoot:

Suzie A Make Up Portfolio Update

We had a cancellation on Feb 25th and instead of just calling it a day and going home our make up artist Suzie A asked if we could do a shoot to update her make up portfolio. So we called our favorite models and they brought a few friends and we did a very fun and interesting shoot.

Carlos A and Suzie A (no relation) started discussing some of the different looks they wanted to capture that day. To give the shoot more of an impact Carlos A decided to also make a video of the shoot.

Here is the video of the shoot:

Ralph Berr Comes to Gray Door Studio

Sometimes gigs come from unexpected places. A few days before the shoot we were having a meeting to about building our year year 3 portfolio everything was going well when at midnight we get a knock on our door. It was a close friend of our photographer Carlos. He came in to say hello and to ask us if we were willing to shoot a DJ the only catch was we needed to shoot him in a few days. Normally that would not be a problem but it was a thursday night and we were booked for the whole weekend. The only day we had available was monday, which normally is our day off.

Our photographer Carlos and our Make up artist Suzie decided to take the job. Ralph was a little nervous. This was his first shoot. We originally wanted to do 3 large sets but we wound up doing 7 small sets. The more relaxed, less stressful and quicker sets turned out to be exactly what Ralph needed.

Here are some of the pics from his shoot.

Show Us Your Pink

Here is a behind the scene video of a photo shoot from Gray Door Studio. We were working with Baskin Robbins Canada for their "Show Us Your Pink" breast cancer awareness campaign for facebook. This was a very long shoot that lasted two days. we had over 25 volunteers and we served about 10 gallons of strawberry ice cream. We loved shooting this campaign and would love do do it again for 2011. With a little luck we just might.

Here are a few behind the scenes pics from the campaign.

You can see the complete campaign here.

Evacuate the building please

No one can ever say that interesting things do not happen to us.  Today we rented our studio for a few hours to our good friend Ricky for a music video. Or we were i should say....  After Ricky and Carlos  loaded up the first round of gear they decided to go over the shot list and discuss some of the possible lighting set ups there was a knock on the door. Carlos opens the door and is greeted by a firefighter. He tells Carlos that he has to evacuate the building in 5 min because the utility pole from across the street is about to fall on the building. he then goes on to say that they think it will they need PSE&G to come and inspect the pole, but in the meantime they are shutting off electricity to the block just in case.

So we quickly grabbed everything that was completely necessary, and a laptop, and ran out the door. Ricky and carlos decided to go to starbucks in edgewater just to kill a few hours and then go back and check on the progress of what PSE&G was doing.

But before Carlos left he took some pics of what was going on.
